Picky Bits In The Garden
Picky Bits In The Garden
“right in front of my salad!”
This is our summer crowd pleaser - our pistachio gin gives nutty undertones in this refreshing and herbal drink. It opens bright and fresh with elderflower sweetness then settles into a smooth, herbal, nutty center. The gin’s nutty warmth blends perfectly with the cream and umami profile of the olives subtle saltiness. Refreshing mint and cucumber adds a garden-esque lift and a subtle, cooling snap. A fizzed, creamy foam crowns the glass with fresh cream and soda to give a rich, thick and tingly mouth feel. Enjoy it over cubed ice, crushed ice, or without…either way, it stays light, low-strength, and dangerously sippable in the sun or in front of salad. [Low Strength Drink]

50ml - Verstachio is a sweet, rich & nutty gin. This will be your base spirit. ABV 40%.
-
20ml - Elderflower liqueur will give this cocktail its sweet, herbaceous profile. A small amount goes a long way. The sweetness keeps the other herbal flavours in balance. ABV for the product is normally 15%-20%.
-
50ml - Make sure the creme is fresh and kept refrigerated before use. Use double cream for a thicker and creamier texture. This gives the cocktail a rich, silky mouth feel.
(Make sure no citrus is used, otherwise it’ll curdle the drink…that won’t be tasty) -
Top the drink with soda water, or if you fancy a sweeter taste, you can use lemonade.
With this cocktail, you can tinker with the flavour profile, by adding in specific garnish. Since this drink’s garnish are olives, cucumber and mint, you can amplify it to your liking. When adding your key ingredients into your shaker, add mint for a cooler taste, add cucumber for a refreshing taste, add olives for a salty umami taste. Mix and match, or add them all in for a well rounded flavour experience.
This cocktail uses a method called reverse dry shaking. Combine all ingredients (apart from the soda) in a shaker with cubed ice. Shake vigorously to chill and mix the ingredients and till the outside of your shaker frosts…that’s when you know its correctly chilled. Strain the mixture into the other shaker tin (or your glass) to remove all the ice. Shake again vigorously without ice to aerate the drink which will create a rich, creamy foam.
Grab a highball (preferably collins glass) and place your cucumber ribbon around the inside of the glass (see photo for reference). The cucumber should stick to the inside of the glass, regardless if you want to use ice or not. Carefully pour the liquid directly into the glass so the cucumber doesn’t come loose. Top with soda water until there is a nice creamy layer towards the top of the glass.
Garnish with a mint sprig and two olives on a cocktail stick.
